Name:
Shawn Smith
When you started in TRIgirl: 2007 season.
Why
you TRIgirl:
I TRIgirl to get support for triathlon training from other women and to support other women in their training efforts, oh , and to party down after races.
Your family (or with whom do you reside?):
I live with my partner and TRIgirl member, Karen, and our two mixed breed dogs, Buddy and Violet and our cat, Elliot in our lovely but ever dirtier house in Northside.
What
do you do for work?
I am a Principal Environmental Planner with the Chesapeake Bay Local Assistance Division within the Department of Conservation and Recreation. I work with local governments to implement the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act program, a state-local partnership designed to protect and improve the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay and other state waters through land use management. Ok, short answer, I am a bureaucrat.
The best meal you cook:
Breakfast; made-up soups of many types. I am also great at microwaving frozen stuff.
What you'll be seen wearing most frequently:
Shorts and t-shirts or casual work clothes.
Favorite quote:
This will be mangled, but it's a Gretzky quote: You will miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take.
What you are reeading now?
Who has time to read? Last book I read was so forgettable, I forget.
Current favorite CD or IPOD download:
Currently over-listening to In Rainbows by Radiohead. IPOD is full of techno-trance-dance and disco. Paul Oakenfold is my favorite techno-spinner.
Something you have accomplished in your life that
you thought you could/would have not been able
to do (not triathlon):
Whew, hard to say right now. I've done a ton of things that I never thought I'd do: playing ice hockey in a national tournament; running marathons; racing mountain bikes; one-time sky-diving (never again); competing in triathlons and of course, signing up for IMFL to name a few.
Your indulgences:
Good Beer, Ben and Jerry's Vanilla-Fudge-Caramel Swirl ice cream, hamburgers and French fries, pizza.
Goals for next season:
Simply to officially finish IMFL.
Favorite race and why:
Any one of any type and distance I finish. My fun comes with the training and the people I get to train with.
