Name:
Diane Schnupp
Years in TRIgirl : 1
Why
you TRIgirl:
I'd wanted to do a triathlon for years
but really didn't know how to get started. When
a friend of mine from FURS told me about TriGirls,
I was in! As soon as I registered, Grandison called
and even convinced me to get my lazy butt out
of bed for a 6 a.m. Thursday run as my first-ever
TriGirl activity. Everyone was so great that I
just had to stick with it. Now I'm inspired by
all the TriGirls training for longer distance
events and all the new Baby Pinks' enthusiasm.
Your family (or with whom do you reside?):
My husband, Scott, and I have been married
for over 17 years. We have two children. Connor
is almost seven (which I can't even believe -
that sounds so old to me!) and Regan is five and
a half (and mini-me - she even has a TriGirl tee
shirt that she loves). Connor and Regan are doing
the Kids’ Tri on June 2 at the Shady Grove
Y and I can’t wait! Come cheer them on!
They’ll be in SpongeBob Squarepants jerseys.
What
do you do for work?
I started doing IT consulting about eight
months ago and is has been a great change - more
family time, no travel, much less stress, and
just an all around better quality of life. I work
for Core Consulting and have been on an engagement
with Markel since September. I plan to work reduced
hours in July and August to spend more time with
my kids. And… hopefully train more too.
The best meal you cook:
My favorite is a spring vegetable lasagna
with asparagus, procuitto, and potatoes in a garlicky
white sauce. I'll have to post the recipe on the
forum... It takes awhile to make but is totally
worth it. I also have a fabulous Cobb Salad recipe
but I like that one better when my college roommate
Jill makes it for me. Preferably at her summer
house. I love to cook... almost as much as I love
to eat.
What you'll be seen wearing most frequently:
My adorable TriGirl three quarter sleeve
pink top with jeans. Even better with sunglasses
and a smile. I’m also loving my new Biker
Chick jersey and first real pair of tri shorts.
Favorite quote:
“Life is not a journey to the grave
with the intention to arrive safely in a pretty
and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in
broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out,
and loudly proclaiming: Wow!! What a ride!”
Isn’t that great?
What you are reeading now?
The Kid Turned Out Fine edited
by Paula Ford-Martin (better premise than execution
– short stories by moms of the crazy things
that happen raising children) and A Heartbreaking
Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers (which
is sad and funny and wonderful). Also a stack
of Bicycling and Triathlete magazines. With People
magazine thrown in for good measure.
Current favorite CD or IPOD download:
I love the Scissor Sisters' "I Don't
Feel Like Dancin'" - even though I almost
always feel like dancin'. And as anyone who took
winter cycling at Maramarc knows, I like my 70s
disco tunes, 80s hair bands, and 80s and 90s alternative.
I even occasionally listen to music from this
decade.
Something you have accomplished in your life that
you thought you could/would have not been able
to do (not triathlon):
Having a baby. Then having another 15
months later. I could never imagine myself pregnant
but absolutely loved it once it happened. Drugs
were key for me. And I quickly discovered that
raising the little beings is a heck of a lot harder
than birthing them.
Your indulgences:
Red wine and dark chocolate - preferably
together. Yum!!!!
